Privacy Policy
ClearAlt is a Shopify app that audits and remediates accessibility issues in a merchant’s store. This policy explains exactly what we hold.
The short version. We store your product image identifiers, the alt text we write, your theme colour settings, and an access token. We never read, receive or store data about your customers.
1. Who we are
ClearAlt is operated by the developer of the ClearAlt Shopify application. For any privacy question, including access, correction or erasure requests, write to privacy@getclearalt.com. We reply within 5 business days.

3. What we never collect
ClearAlt requests only these Shopify permissions: read_products, write_products, read_themes, write_themes, read_content. These permissions cannot reach customer records, orders, payment details or personal information, and we request nothing further. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising identifiers, or third-party analytics inside the app.
4. What we change in your store
With an active subscription, and only when you click to confirm, ClearAlt writes alt text to your product media and may write corrected colour values to your theme settings. Every such change is recorded with its previous value and can be reversed from inside the app for 30 days.
5. Who else sees your data
We use two categories of processor: cloud hosting for the application and its database, and Shopify itself for authentication and billing. We do not sell, rent or share your data with anyone else, and we do not use it to train machine learning models.
6. Where data is held
Data is stored on servers within the European Union. Transfers outside the EU, where they occur through our hosting provider, rely on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR and comparable laws you may request access to, correction of, or erasure of your data, and may object to or restrict processing. Write to privacy@getclearalt.com.
Uninstalling the app deletes your access token immediately. Your undo history is retained for its remaining 30 days so that changes can still be reversed, then deleted automatically. To erase everything at once, ask us and we will do it within 5 business days.
We also implement Shopify’s mandatory privacy webhooks. On a shop/redact request, all data belonging to your store is deleted permanently.
8. Security
Access tokens are stored encrypted at rest. All traffic uses TLS. Data belonging to one store is isolated from every other store and is never combined across merchants.
9. Children
ClearAlt is a business tool and is not directed at anyone under 16.
10. Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will notify merchants inside the app before the change takes effect and update the date at the top of this page.
